Sports Medicine in Torquay

Torquay Medical Health & Wellness Clinic provides sports medicine assessment and care for active people across Torquay, the Surf Coast and the wider Geelong region. Our practitioner team includes doctors with extensive experience in sport and exercise medicine, from community activity through to elite sport.

Appointments are available for people of different ages, sporting backgrounds and activity levels. You do not need to be an elite athlete to seek advice about an injury, pain or difficulty returning to exercise.

Sports injury assessment

A careful assessment can help identify the likely cause of an acute or persistent sports injury and guide appropriate next steps. Depending on the practitioner and your individual circumstances, this may include a clinical examination, review of previous imaging, discussion of treatment options, exercise guidance or referral to another health professional.

Knee, shoulder and musculoskeletal injuries

Our sports medicine team sees a range of musculoskeletal concerns, including acute knee and shoulder injuries, bone stress injuries, tendinopathy and pain that affects training, work or everyday movement. The goal of an appointment is to understand the problem, discuss suitable management options and support a safe return to activity where possible.

Concussion assessment in Torquay

Concussion requires appropriate clinical assessment and a considered return-to-activity plan. Our team includes practitioners with professional sporting and concussion experience. If a head injury is associated with severe or worsening symptoms, loss of consciousness, repeated vomiting, seizure, increasing confusion or another medical emergency, call 000 or attend an emergency department.

Diagnostic imaging and guided procedures

Some sports medicine practitioners at the clinic have experience interpreting diagnostic imaging, including X-ray, CT and MRI. Where clinically appropriate and offered by the practitioner, ultrasound-guided procedures may be discussed. These can include corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid or platelet-rich plasma injections. Suitability, expected benefits, limitations, costs and potential risks must be assessed during an individual consultation.

Exercise-related health concerns

Sport and exercise medicine can also consider health issues that affect a person’s ability to exercise safely and perform well. The appropriate assessment will depend on your symptoms, medical history, activity goals and the practitioner you book with.
